Fuel Trip Calculator

Estimate fuel required, fuel cost, total trip cost including tolls, and cost per passenger using your own current values.

km
Enter the one-way road distance. Return trips are doubled automatically.
L/100 km
Use your vehicle's expected consumption for this journey.
per litre
Use the current price in your currency. Results use the same currency.
Journey type
your currency
Optional. Enter the total tolls for the complete journey, including the return leg when relevant.
people
Include the driver in the number of people sharing the trip cost.

Worked example

For a 200 km one-way distance selected as a return trip, the total distance is 400 km. At 6 L/100 km, the journey uses 24 L. At 1.50 per litre plus 12 in total tolls, the trip costs 48 in the same currency; split between three people, that is 16 each.

Methodology and sources

Estimate fuel and trip cost from one-way distance, L/100 km consumption, price per litre, journey type, total tolls and equal passenger splitting.

  1. Multiply the one-way distance by one for a one-way journey or two for a return journey.
  2. Multiply journey distance by L/100 km consumption, then divide by 100 to get litres required.
  3. Multiply litres required by the entered price per litre.
  4. Add the entered whole-journey toll cost.
  5. Divide total trip cost equally by the number of people entered.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Distance and consumption remain constant across the journey.
  • Tolls are the whole-journey amount entered by the user and are not doubled automatically.
  • The total is divided equally across all people entered, including the driver.
  • This is a planning estimate, not a guarantee of actual fuel use or cost.
  • Parking, maintenance, depreciation, insurance and other travel costs are excluded.
  • Actual consumption varies with traffic, speed, terrain, weather, load and driving style.

The consumption input uses the litres-per-100-kilometres convention described in the EU fuel-consumption information rules.

Frequently asked questions

Does a return trip double the toll cost?

No. The distance is doubled, but toll systems can charge differently by direction. Enter the total toll amount for the whole journey.

Who should be included in the passenger count?

Include everyone sharing the cost, including the driver.

Does Youtoola supply fuel or toll prices?

No. Enter current values for your location and route; the calculator stores no price feed or regional default.
